Lyric Opera of Kansas City presents “Carmen” September 25, 2010 – 8:00 p.m. September 29, 2010 – 7:30 p.m. October 1, 2010 – 8:00 p.m. October 3, 2010 – 2:00 p.m. It is hard to imagine the opera world without its smokin’-hot gypsy. Carmen’s cruel seduction has been bewitching audiences since the opera’s premiere with fiery flamenco inspired melodies. Bizet’s smoldering classic, seething with seduction, will have you whispering “she had it coming” when the final curtain drops. Emerging mezzo soprano Sandra Piques Eddy makes her Lyric Opera Debut as opera’s beloved bad girl. On Chicago Theatre said her portrayal “makes you believe that a man would destroy his life for her” and The Chicago Times said that she uses “her burgundy-rich low register as a powerful tool of seduction.”

Lyric Opera of Kansas City presents “Norma” November 6, 2010 – 8:00 p.m. November 10, 2010 – 7:30 p.m. November 12, 2010 – 8:00 p.m. November 14, 2010 – 2:00 p.m. Bellini’s gorgeous score marries brilliantly with a story about a powerful woman forced to betray her sacred vows for love – only to be betrayed by her lover’s infidelity. In the ensuing struggle to save her name, her children, and her lover, Norma finds truth in the ultimate sacrifice. After receiving critical acclaim for singing the title role at Opéra de Québec, Michigan Opera Theatre, and Minnesota Opera, soprano Brenda Harris sings the notoriously demanding role. Opera News raved “[she] had it all: unstinting intensity, brilliant high C’s … and total dramatic commitment.”

Lyric Opera of Kansas City presents “The Daughter of the Regiment” February 19, 2011 – 8:00 p.m. February 23, 2011 – 7:30 p.m. February 25, 2011 – 8:00 p.m. February 27, 2011 – 2:00 p.m. Marie is a pretty little girl with a pretty big heart. When the orphaned Marie is adopted by a regiment of French soldiers, laughter erupts. This heartwarming story filled with catchy tunes, two handfuls of tenor high C’s, and one energetic singing tomboy, has a happy ending when love prevails over privilege. Soprano Nili Riemer, who made Kansas City audiences swoon as Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance in 2008, plays Marie. The Ithaca Journal gushed that Ms. Riemer “… appears to have been born to sing the title role …”

Lyric Opera of Kansas City presents “The Marriage of Figaro” April 9, 2011 – 8:00 p.m. April 13, 2011 – 7:30 p.m. April 15, 2011 – 8:00 p.m. April 17, 2011 – 2:00 p.m. Mozart’s masterful comedy is a fitting end to the Lyric Opera 2010-2011 season – the final opera in the Lyric Theatre. It’s the day of Figaro and Susanna’s wedding, but they might be the only two that want it to happen. Can Figaro outwit the Count and deflect the distractions to claim his bride? In a whirlwind of miscommunications, hyperactive hormones, and mistaken identities, true characters are revealed and everyone ends up merry in the end! This hilarious opera features some of the best emerging singers working today – Opera News hails, “Sari Gruber was a blazing-voiced firecracker of a Susanna.”
