Downtown/Rivermarket

12 Baltimore

Address/Phone:

106 W. 12th St, KCMO 64105

816-221-2600

Review: Downtown's swanky hotel bar. But don't be fooled this venue that serves as the Hotel Phillips bar also serves up Djs and Live bands on a regular basis. Check out the raw bar for happy hour. 12 B can be a little expensive, but it's worth it.

Angel's Rock Bar

Address/Phone:

1323 Walnut Street, Kansas City, MO 64106

(816) 896-3943

Review: Exactly what it sounds like, a kick ass rock bar. Expect hot girls, loud music and big hair. I wouldn’t plan on taking the parents here when they visit because it gets pretty wild. Not only do the bartenders look the part but they put on a show too. Table service is available but I wouldn’t bother with it. Put on that old concert t-shirt, spike that hair and get ready to burn your tires! This place always has some kind of event going on so check the schedule on their website and you may hit up some kind of crazy party. Another place where making sure to take a cab home is priority

Bar Natasha

Address/Phone:

1911 Main St., KCMO 64108

816-472-5300

Review: Don’t just grab dinner and drinks; enjoy the best fusion of culinary, mixology, performing and visual arts that Kansas City has to offer. Bar Natasha plays host to nightly shows performed by the terrifically talented staff of performers. And with a “completely homemade” menu, you’re sure not to find any fried foods while tasting top notch appetizers, small plates and decadent sweets. Whoever said the 11 o’clock is the same as the 9 o’clock obviously hadn’t found this “Always Live, Always Delicious” Kansas City original.

Blonde

Address/Phone:

100 Ward Pkwy, Kansas City, MO 64112

(816) 931-2525

Review: The only club on the Plaza!! Blonde seems a little misplaced next to all the upscale shops and restaurants but that is what makes it work. Highly suggest this place as a late night stop if you want to dance to the beat of good tunes and rock out in the dark!! Sometimes, not often, Blonde can be a little hairy to get into because of its late night popularity. If you are a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, this is the place where you can almost guarantee meeting some of the players during the season. Table service is available and this would be the only place that I would consider using this option if you were out with a group.

Bulldog Bar & Grill

Address/Phone:

1715 Main St. KCMO 64108

816-421-4799

Review: The Bulldog gives downtown a new trendy spot to call its own. The place is decorated with a throwback feel and the menu gives you the history of the drinks they serve. There's a back room for private parties. You can also just sit at the bar and relax with friends. This place is a hidden gem downtown.

CrossRoads Music Venue

Address/Phone:

Crosstown Station

Address/Phone:

1522 McGee Street, Kansas City, MO 64108

(816) 471-1522

Review: In the mood for some live music? This is the place for you then. Probably one of the nicest live music venues in the country, this place is fantastic. The big names don’t come here but if you are in the mood for those types of musicians that are on the brink of success then you may just catch them performing here. Such bands as The Republic Tigers play there along with them hosting the ever popular Rock N Fashion Show. Great specials, some food, but overall one of my favorite places to catch some great music with my friends.

Czar Bar

Address/Phone:

1531 Grand Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64108

(816) 221-2244

Review: Locally owned and operated and in downtown KC, the Czar Bar offers a lounge environment with live music. They do have a menu but I didn’t get a chance to try anything. Check out their schedule before going to find out who will be playing. A little trendy but can cater to the less trendy crowd too. Drink specials are a little hard to come by and the price could be better but still a fun place.

Dolce

Address/Phone:

Flying Saucer

Address/Phone:

101 E 13th St, Kansas City, MO 64106

(816) 221-1900

Review: • If you like drinking beer then this place is for you! So many beers on tap it will make your mind race. Their food is pretty good too. This is a great place for pre-drinking or hanging with some friends. The deals are pretty good here so it won’t break your wallet. Also, I would highly recommend this place for lunch, kick ass sandwiches but the service can be a little slow. To avoid the frustration of the slow service, just order another beer, they have a selection of over 200!!!

Foundry at McCoy's

Address/Phone:

Gordon Biersch

Address/Phone:

100 East 14th Street, Kansas City, MO 64105

(816) 471-2340

Review: Kick ass brewery that has awesome food! The Steak Frites with garlic fries is about as good as it gets. Great place to meet with friends, drink and just enjoy the evening. This is no dive bar or sports bar, this place is a more of an upscale type of bar. A little more expensive than a normal bar too but well worth it. Try their homemade brews or if you don’t know what kind of beer you would like, check out the sampler!

Harry's Country Club

Address/Phone:

112 E. Missouri Ave, KCMO 64106

816-421-3505

Review: Harry's Country Club serves as a great change of pace to the Rivermarket set. Whether you. You are taken to an old style bar in a time long ago. The black and white pictures along with the road signs and hunting carnage on the walls provides an interesting setting. Bands play outside on Harry's massive deck. The crowd here is of the 35 and older variety, but everyone tends to have a good time.

Howl At The Moon

Address/Phone:

1334 Grand Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64106

(816) 471-4695

Review: Can you say dueling piano bar? If that isn’t enough entertainment for you then I don’t know what is. Once again, located in the P&L District, this place definitely rocks out in a different way. Practice brushing up on your Piano Man lyrics and drunkenly singing along to pretty much every song you know by heart. The bar boasts some pretty crazy concoctions and also your usual suspects. Don’t expect to just sit back and chill, this place wants you to get involved and be part of the show! Warning: Watch out for the party buckets, they will kick you square in the pants!

John's Upper Deck

Address/Phone:

928 Wyandotte, KCMO 64105

816-474-5668

Review: located in the heart of downtown John's Upper Deck provides one of the best party spots in the downtown area. Head up to one of Kansas City's only rooftop bars to catch happy hour, Karaoke, or live bands. Hang out on the second level and play bar games and listen to the jukebox or Dj. You can also just hangout with friends and enjoy a cocktail on the first level. if you are downtown John's is a great destination.

JP Wine Bar

Address/Phone:

1526 Walnut - Kansas City, MO

816-842-2660

Review: Yes, a wine bar this is. But it’s the coffee part that provides the start. Throughout the day, you’ll find a gathering of twenty-somethings clicking away on their laptops – hand on one of the many flavorful coffees. With nightfall, an energetic atmosphere is set as live music provides the ultimate background soundtrack for your wine-filled night. Wine flights are the house specialty…giving you an immediate conversation starter with the table next to you. Start off with the wine, cleanse the pallet with the cheese flight and end with a sensual bite of seduction, off the dessert tray.

Lucky Strike Lanes

Address/Phone:

1370 Grand Blvd # 2, Kansas City, MO 64106

(816) 471-2316

Review: Inspired by Hollywood Star Lanes and where The Big Lebowski was filmed, this place is a combination of high energy and takes bowling to an entirely different level. No more are there goofy shirts and old folks, this place caters to the trendy and fun loving crowd. Check the schedule for live music, DJs and all kinds of events going on. This isn’t your grandpa’s bowling alley, this place is just like a club but with bowling. Located on the second floor on the P&L District. www.bowlluckystrike.com

Madrigall

Address/Phone:

Review: Madrigall Martini Bar is a bar and restaurant with great cocktails and food. The kitchen is open until 9pm with $3 happy hour specials daily. Check out the extensive Medeterranian food selection including a variety of Pitas and Hummus. They also have over 80 martinis to choose from. All well drinks and select martinis are happy hour priced at $3 all night! McFaddens

Address/Phone:

1330 Grand Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64106

(816) 471-1330

Review: Located in the P&L District, this Irish sports bar is a great place to watch any game and also to quench your thirst for a tasty beverage. Excellent bar food, good atmosphere, and great specials make this an extremely fun place to go with the guys or girls and just chill. Always a lively place, McFadden’s seems to be the “it” place to hold happy hour events and social gatherings. It also doesn’t hurt that they are right across from the Sprint Center. Good staff and easy bar access throughout the place. Also, it is a very affordable place too.

Mosaic

Address/Phone:

1331 Walnut Street, Kansas City, MO 64105

(816) 442-8134

Review: The closest thing to an East or West coast trendy club. Be careful though, you may have to fight off some irritating wannabe club people here though. Great Thursday nights though, probably the best in town for the “in” crowd. Drinks aren’t that cheap though but who cares when you are hanging with the social butterflies of Kansas City. Table service is available but once again I don’t think you really need to go THAT far. Dress to impress and who knows, you may get lucky with that guy or girl at the office who all of the sudden is dancing to the DJs!

Nara

Address/Phone:

1617 Main - Kansas City, MO

816-221-6272

Review: Nara offers an authentic Japanese Robata tradition right here in downtown Kansas City. Complement each unique meal with a fine wine or complete drink menu during daily happy hours or weekly special events. Whether you’re looking for a light lunch, a unique dinner date or sushi and sake, Nara brings a unique urban environment to the growing Crossroads Art District. And to make sure it stays truly unique, Nara imports the hard wood charcoal it uses, called binchotan, from Japan. Try getting this taste any where else in KC.

NV

Address/Phone:

Review: The unique addition of a video bar that shows comedy clips and music videos during happy hour sets this downtown nightspot apart from the rest. Enjoy drink specials (half-price martini Saturdays are extremely popular) until late in the evening, when the club gets rolling and DJs put on thrilling music and light shows. A favorite of the gay and straight communities (and everyone in between), NV unites patrons with great music, tasty drinks, and heaps of clubby atmosphere. The non-smoking environment offers dance music of all kinds.

PBR Big Sky

Address/Phone:

Walnut St., Ste 3000, Kansas City, MO 64106

Review: • YEE HAW! Here is a trendy take on a country bar smack dab in the middle of the city. Once again, located in the P&L District, this bar invites more regular folks than cowboys. Of course, they do host some pretty darn serious folks from the farm. Good music (if you are into country) and lots of drinks partner up for you having one hell of a time. For your enjoyment, PBR offers a chance for you to even ride the bull, yes, they have a mechanical bull. So get your Urban Cowboy on and saddle up for one good ol’ time!

Peanut Downtown

Address/Phone:

419 W. 9th, KCMO 64105

816-221-7470

Review: Go ahead, call it a dive bar! That’s what makes it great! Serving up the best BLT in the bi-state area, The Peanut Downtown offers it at an even better price. If it’s ice cold beer and hot chicken wings you crave, forget driving to the ‘burbs, just go around the corner. But it’s not always chill. Check out what they got going on for Sunday nights…Hip Hop and Hot Wings. Local DJs lay it down as you’re scarfing it down.

River Market Brewery

Address/Phone:

500 Walnut, KCMO 64105

816-471-6300

Review: The Rivermarket Brewery started during the microbrew craze and has managed to hang on even though located in the up and down rivermarket area. The serve a great blend of microbrews and traditional beers. Patrons from the surrounding lofts flock to the brewery to catch games on Saturdays and Sundays. The food is great here. This aspect brings a great dinner and lunch crowd that usually end up hanging out for hours. The atmosphere here is very relaxed, but people still seem to have a great time.

Address/Phone:

7th & Walnut - KCMO

Tango Sed Cantina

Address/Phone:

1323 Walnut Street, Kansas City, MO 64105

(816) 442-8112

Review: Another P&L District creation that caters to the “wild” crowd. Imagine going to Cancun or Cabo San Lucas, that is the bar you will find here except you are 1000 miles from any ocean. Thumping music, bartenders with whistles encouraging you to slam tequila and loosen every inhibition you may have. Highly suggest, Thursday night special of $15.00 all you can drink until midnight just make sure to take a cab home! The Food is pretty good too, for your normal Mexican fair. Overall, a great place to forget about being landlocked for awhile and just let your hair down

The garage doors fixed with glass window panes open up to provide a great view of Downtown KC. With reasonably priced drinks, great atmosphere, and excellent location, the Cashew should be one of the new Kansas City Hot Spots.

Put on those dancing shoes on Fridays and Saturdays when a DJ spins. Expect to put on some dressier clothes for this place to impress the more trendy crowd. It’s nice to go out and hear a nightly special is being offered after the typical happy hour. Start at happy hour, and stay through the night. Heck, even stop in for a great lunch once and a while. Sooner or later, you’ll find yourself as a regular. This is a true young professional’s sports bar.
